10 girls. 10 colours. is the next exhibition by tenmoregirls collective. As the name of the exhibition suggests this year all ten girls are going to be exploring colour. Each of the girls picked one colour from hat, than they research it in detail and took it from there.
I picked colour blue, which happens to be also my favorite colour. On one side it makes it very enjoyable but on the other side little bit difficult to work with this colour because I surround myself with blue a lot and therefore it is hard to come up with something new.
I really tried hard to stay away from inspiration of water, ice, glass and snow as I have created some work based on these elements in the past. I was thinking what else blue means to me and realized that it is also colour of communication and balance! From that an idea comes across. Idea of making “sound” objects. Because I consider myself to be musically untalented I approached this project as an exploration of sound that can be created by metal components.
At the moment I have already two pieces almost completed.
First sound instrument is consisting of two hollow metal pieces playing on each other. The sound is rather deep and of course metallic.
Second instrument is “music lentil”, hollow object with a metal plate and couple of ball bearings inside playing on the sides of the instrument. The sound is soft.
Next object I am planning to make is a “rain dropper”. Hand raised longish object fitting nicely in the hand to be shaken to create the sound.
More objects and updates are to come so stay in touch! From the progress images you can see where is this project is going but to see finished pieces you will have to come and check out the exhibition that is going to be in the second half of this year.
